Server List in UNIX

Does UNIX maintain a server list? How
Ex.
Netware servers uses SAP broadcasts to announce it’s presence on the network, and each server maintains a server list. NT uses WINS, master browsers, to maintain a server list. Is there a similar function with UNIX? Is there a command like Netware’s slist?

I’m new to the platform, any help would be greatly appreciated.
