set up a linux firewall at home

I am running Win 2000 on deskstop and I have ADSL
I would like to set up a linux firewall, but all I have is a 386 computer. Or should I wait until I can come across a pentium? Can it be done?

And if so how? I do know linux but I am no guru. Is there a site that gives step by step instruction.
