Set up a linux server

I don’t know nothing about linux(not much). I have a windows 2000 domain. all workstations log into the domain. What about Linux? Can I use Linux servers and still use all my XP workstions and habve them log into ” a domain”???
I use linux now for a virus server, a backup server… but never my main dns,dhcp, logon servers.
