I am new to Linux. Having bought a Red Hat 7.1 on a CD set. I have Linux sytem running OK but cant get any NIC to be recognized by the Operating system. The Box is entirely set up as a Linux Box. I want to connect to the Linux by a LAN using my Windows 98SE Box so that I can do some FTPing, write server side programs using text editors like Pico and run them in Perl. I am doing some courses that would be greatly helped if I could get my systems talking to one another.
I have had set teh box up using GNOME GUI and I have had a look in teh Control panel where I find the eth0 is inactive and lo is active. when I try to activate the eth0 (which i presume iss the default name for my NIC it wont activate. Actually during inital setup of Linux it comes up as failed when bringing up the interface eth0.
Can some one tell me what I have to do.
Many Thanks
