Setup.exe error

“Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconveniance”
“Any work you were in the middel of may be lost.”

This is the message that comes up when I try to remove anything from add/remove programmes on my computer. Anyone have any ideas on how to repar it?
Also i am unable to install certain programs because of various setup errors.
