Sharing a USB Printer

by bigjohndoe . Updated 25 years, 10 months ago

Hi:

I have a two PCs networked together. The “server” is a 686-466c running Win 98SE and the “client” is a 586-200 running Win 95B. The server has two printers attached: an old Brother HL-645 on LPT1 and a HP-895CSE color printer on one of two USB ports. I’ve shared out the hard drive and both printers on the server. The client can see and access all shared resources except the HP-895 printer. When I attempt to print to the HP-895 I get a “printer is offline” message. The printer is online. The client can print to the HL-645. Can USB devices be shared? I can’t find anything in Microsoft’s Knowledge Base confirming it can or cannot. I can’t believe I’m the first guy to try and print to a USB printer.
