Shortcut arrows have disappeared

All of a sudden my shortcuts no longer display the shortcut arrow in the corner. This seems to have happened after I tried and failed to install PC Tools Reg Fix. It didn’t work, and the tech online had me run a utility that purported to remove “malware” but ever since then the shorcut icons are not diplaying properly. When I try to click on one of them in WordPerfect, I get an “unsupported file format” error message. But when I double-click on the same shortcut in Windows Explorer it loads up Windows and the file.

Any ideas?
