Sleep mode problem?

I’ve had this problem ever since I got my laptop and that is that the computer will not fully go into sleep mode or will not come out of sleep mode so I have to use hibernation instead. Ive been told that it was a windows 7 issue and I’ve heard that its a hardware issue. Is there anyway to fix this issue? I’m using an Asus G72 laptop if it helps.
