Slow WIN2K Server Logon

I am in the process of setting up my first WIN2K Domain. Domain users are taking 11 MINUTES to be logged on and authticated by the server. Can this be normal? Any suggestions on how to speed things up
Clients are WIN2K Pro. I am not even trying to get internet access yet, just classroom student user authentication. I am running a local DC and I am hosting DNS on the DC. I have the clients pointing right to the server’s IP address for DNS service. I’ve disabled any group policy from being applied during log on in case that was bogging things down.
