SMTP Server Related Question

What is the use of creating Local Domains and Remote Domains under the Domains at the SMTP Virtual Server. The SMTP virtual server is completely working for incoming and outgoing e-mails.

Could you explain to me what are the importance of creating this domains under SMTP.
