Solaris 8 on Intel Platform

I am attempting to install Solaris 8 on my desktop pc (intel platform). However, the insatllation is cancelled after devices are identified. It gives an error message:

“The root file system is not mounted and the configuration assistant has exited prematurely. Booting is unlikely to succeed.”

I press (ctrl + d) to continue anyway, and it comes up wiht:

“Cannot load root file system”

My hdd is partioned in two, windows xp and the other half set aside for Solaris.

What seems to be the problem?
