Sound card problems with RH Linux 7.1

When the computer starts up, isapnp recognizes my ESS Audiodrive PNP card. However, when I run sndconfig, it sees no card at all. Manually selecting the ESS cards listed in sndconfig generates error messages: sb.o: init_module: no such device; insmod /lib/modules/2.4.2-2/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o failed; insmod /lib/modules/2.4.2-2/kernel/drivers/sound/sound-slot-0 failed. The card works fine with Win ’98. Is there a workaround to this problem, or should just get a new soundcard?
