Standard support ratio?

What has been the experience of Net Admins regarding the ratio between support personnel and supported clients? I’ve heard that the “industry standard” is 50 clients per support person, but is that really true? Yes, a lot depends on the complexityand quantity of applications being supported, but what is the “norm” out there?
