Startup problem

Yesterday may computer was working fine. I shut it down and I can’t get it to power up. First it gives the instruction to hit any key to boot from CD Rom. I hit a key and get the following message: (open) windows(root)/system32/ntoskrnl.exe. Does anyone know what thgis means? Please send me a message if you can help me get my computer running again.
