I was recently asked by my boss to look into a way to store our data. After looking around it seems a Tape drive would be the best solution. Well I am still new in the IT business and most of my knowledge consists of software and troubleshooting. When it comes to Harware I am somewhat un informed. So I started to look into Tape Drives. Well after a day or so I was able to finally understand all the Differences in the formats Tape Drives use. The ones I found to be the best were DLT and DDS-4. At this point I was feeling comfortable telling my boss I was on the up and up. That was until I got into what kind of SCSI card I would need to use. Well to be brief I was overwelmed by the amount of differences in SCSI cards. And even now I am somewhat confused becuase I’ll look at one brand of SCSI 2 ultra wide card and will will greatly differ from another company’s brand. I would like to know what recommendations some of the Tech Repuublic members might have. I have found the info here very useful before. This is what we are mianly looking for. A Tape device that has a capacity of 20/40gb. I am hopeing for 5.5mb/s transfer rate. And also for the deive to be right around $1,000. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
