Strange characters on man pages…

When looking at man pages, there are strange characters appearing.

For instance the line should look like this:

-v, –verbose

but it looks like:

? v, ? ? verbose

and when pasted into a text document it looks like:

???v, ??????verbose

It seems the dashes (-) are being replaced by (?)’s with 2 non-printable characters. I don’t have this problem anywhere else on my system except man pages. Any suggestions?
