Suse 10 snd-emu10k1

How do I get a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 card working in Suse 10?

I’ve installed the card, and YAST2 seems to recognize the card. Yet, all I can get out of the card for sound is a high pitched squeal. Which didn’t show up until several reboots later.
