I am have a Compaq Proliant ML370 Server with SuSE 8.1 Samba 2.2.8
I just installed a new Sony AIT 260e tape drive and it backs up incredibly
fast and writes to the tape correctly both from my backup software “Lone-tar”
and from the command line. However I get input/output errors when I try to
do a restore from either. I know the tapes are good because I can restore
with them on another system with any of the tape drives. The tape drive is attached to the onboard SCSI controller, I have a separate array controller for the drives. I have tried 3 different new tape drives and all new tapes.
I have had a SureStore DLT8000 attached to the same server and cable for quite sometime and can backup and restore correctly with it.
I have a newer ML370 system with Redhat 7.2 Samba 2.2.7 and the drive works there without any problems and
can also do restores from the tapes created on the SuSE box.
How can I find out if there is a firmware upgrade required on any of the
internal parts of the server (onboard controller, motherboard,…) that need to
be updated?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you
