System Restore Issues

I made some unwanted changes to my laptop and decided that system restore was a good idea. I opened it to find there were only 2 restore points available and it would not allow me to go back a week. When selecting a restore point 2 days ago it says i was unable to restore. Is it corrupt or is the whole process flawed?
