Take photos from my webcam

I have just bought a HP Pavilion dv6000, which has an integrated webcam 1.3 MP. I am not able to find any software which may allow me to take regular camera like photos and save them to my hard disk.I have windows vista which has incompatibilties with all the softwares which i have tried and i am in a stans still.can you please help me out?
