Technical Marketing Analyst

I work for a high tech company and I have an opportunity to transfer from being a Product Support Specialist, which means that I support the networking end of our products, to a position called Technical marketing analyst. This position is at a higher level than I am at, but it is in the marketing department. Basically, you are a project manager for a new line of products, and are responsible for turning technical specs in to customer friendly business terms among other things like trade shows press releases, etc. Is anyone in a position like this that can explain what it is like, how they like it, and possible career paths?
