TFTP Fails over Long Distances

Can anyone explain why exactly TFTP fails over long distances? I have less than 70ms delay and over 1Mps of bandwidth, but I still can’t seem to get a good TFTP connection over a long distance. Is there something I’m missing?? Thanks
