The “different” employee

A newsletter crossed my desktop a few days ago that I wished I have saved. It spoke of an employee who was “different” – a developer who didn’t quite “fit in” socially.

It concerned me that the employee may have Asperger’s Syndrome or High Functioning Autism and may have legitimate social issues.

My manager got insulted with me because I tended to email him rather than wandering across the hall, until I explained some of my social phobia issues.

If the guy can write good code, do you really care if he can’t chatter?
