Took a job far away, now maybe one in to

by coloradoguy . Updated 23 years, 5 months ago

What a dilemma, a few months ago I learned I was going to be laid off. Couldn’t find a job for 2 months. I finally got an offer from a company several states away and took it. They are very accomodating and even let me stay in my current state for amonth to sell my house (bought 6 months ago), and get everything straightened out. I know I’ll be a good fit there, but my family is devastated about the move and loss of friends.

Today, I get a call from an agent for a position about 5 miles from home. I’ve got experience in everything they are looking for, all the same software and even within the same industry. The salary is right and I’m pretty sure I could get it if interviewed. How much of a jerk would I be if I took the local job over the interstate move?
I want to be fair to the far away company after they suspended their job search for me, but I think I need to look out for me and the family too.
Any opinions? Thanks ahead for your thoughts.
