Tools of a Software Architect

I’m getting more responsibility within my organization to design, or “architect” the software we develop but we don’t have anyone that has what I would consider to be real architectural experience to refer back to.

We work in .NET 2.0/3.5 and VS 2008 Professional already. What are the tools that an architect uses when designing an application? Probably more importantly, what are the deliverables? Notes scribbled on a napkin? An entity-relationship diagram? A class file with the methods and members but no implementation?
