Training/Certification for Analysts

by mark.pryor . Updated 25 years, 2 months ago

Team:
I am currently a Systems Analyst and was a network tech prior with about 3yrs exp. I enjoy the design/development and implementation of systems, but I am very passionate about the technology and do not want to forsake it for the “business side” of IT, ie project management. I was recently given the opportunity from my employer to obtain some training. I would like to know if any of you have any input on what sort of training I should pursue. I have thought about the “usual” certs(MCSE,CNE,CCNA, etc), I do not know if these will benefit me in my current position or where I go in future (I plan on staying in the design/development loop)and I do not want to get a cert just to get one. I have also thought about system specific certs such as SYBASE, ORACLE, etc. I kinda feel that in order to stay equitable I need to obtain one, especially because alot of the job descriptions I have been looking at lately state “certification preferred”.
Thanks for your input.
Mark
