Training path

Hi, I am new to the networking world with about two years of experience. I had a job that was very relaxed about its policies and users and then I moved to a company that has a tight grip on all the users and policies. I am having hard time adjusting and am getting criticized heavily. I am looking expand my knowledge and learn but I am stuck on what to do. Which certs would be helpful and not to mention help me move up in the company ladder? I understand that I lack certain knowledge but I want to make my core very strong so that one day I can become a network administrator or even a CIO. Please give me some feedback on this and help a novice become an expert. Thank you in advance.
