troubleshooting sound problem

hi…
i have installed red hat linux9 .
everything working well except sound .
there is no sound card reported by by many linux softwares like xmms,etc.
on the other hand sound works well with windows.
one thing for sure ,that i have the sound card.
do i lack any sound driver…………
or what
