Unable to boot from new aix 5.3 mksysb

I have installed AIX 5.3 maint level 4 (new and complete overwrite) on system 1. I have backed this up successfully and then tried to boot system 2 from this tape. System 2 hangs with the led display showing E14D for about 5 minutes or so and then moves on to a led display of 0c45 and that is where it stays! I installed the recommended firmware upgrades to deal with the boot image size limit problem before installing AIX 5.3
Any ideas on what to do next ??
