We’re in the process of upgrading our Windows 2000 Professional boxes to Windows XP Pro. We’ve been finding a few undesirable side effects of this. One thing we have recently run into is when attempting to run an install for Citrix Metaframe as local administrator (our Help Desk staff is running this) it’s throwing an error saying something to the effect “A policy is preventing the installation of this package, please contact your systems administrator.” I’ve evaulated all applicable group policy and there appears to be nothing that would prevent the local admin from installing applications, this was not an issue under Windows 2000 and the same install on a Windows 2000 box in the same domain and OU went without issue.
Furthermore there are a few weird entries in the event viewer they are as follows-
