Unable to login

hi,
my system, linux red hat ver 9,
is not accepting logins in graphic interface. it says, authentication failed!! ( for all logins, root and all others)

But, when i boot into ’emergency’ mode where it ask for root password, it authenticates and i’m logged in text mode!

I don’t know whatz the problem and how to solve it.
