Upgrade to Win 2000 Server from NT4

I am currently running NT4 SP 6 using RAID (disk mirroring). One of my 30 GB disks failed and I’m now on the mirror drive. I tried to hot swap with a 40 GB disk but apparently NT4 doesn’t recognize a disk that large. Can I run the upgrade to 2000, break the mirror, and hot swap the disk at that point? Thanks for any input!
