URL Linking With Lotus Notes

How come when I highlight a URL in my Lotus Notes mail message, and create a link “hotspot”, Notes pops open a new window for me to type/paste-in the URL? It already knows the URL, and this seems like a redundent step? Is there a setting in Notes that I have to modify to fix this? Please help.
