Using one PC CD-ROM as resourse for CDless PC

I have an Acer Aspire, no CD, fine. I have 2 laptops with CD-ROMs. I can never find a definitive way to share files and resources. It always seems to come down to a message saying to the effect no permissions. I am Admin for both PCs. I have tried various suggestions, Wizard, everything. Anyone know definitie way with possible scenarios that it might not work and how to get around it? Thanks, jack
