Virtual PC and Linux Fedora

i am using virtual PC from microsoft and have installed linux on it, but at the moment cant do anything because of what i believe is a problem with the colourdepth as the screen is all discoloured, but cannot figure out how to change the colourdepth using either the startx option or going through the command line process
