Virus Protection Blues

I have a real problem with our server ever since we installed McAfee’s virus protection on our Windows 2000 server. The server has slowed down to 1/20 of it former speed. Are there any know issues with McAfee and Windows 2000? Is there any way to solve the problem, short of uninstalling the software and finding another protection program?
