VoIP populatiry check

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has ideas as to how the VoIP demand is in your area (Canada and USA specifically but other info is appreciated too).
In BC, I have configured two of the largest VoIP networks in Western Canada. These networks were multi-million dollar hardware installs, not software based VoIP. Has anyone else noticed an increase in demand for VoIP?
Is it popular in your area? What negative opinions have you heard in your area etc.?
