I attempted to install the Nortel BCM system in our Reno Nevada devision and, no surprise to some people (my boss), it failed to provide the quality required for simple cubicle to cubicle voice transmission. The main probelm wasnt garble or lost voice, it was echo. After much effort and debate we installed a standard handset instead of the IP set and things are back to normal. This doesn’t mean I am planning to abandon VOIP, just the oppisite. I am impatiently waiting for Nortel to provide me with the IP handsets with the proper hardware inside to correct the problem, and I intend to expand the VOIP system to my other division in Las Vegas. I still hope to benifit from the big savings that VOIP can give me. I am allways looking for ways tosave taxpayers money and communication costs are a good place to save.
