VPN Unable to ping internal addresses

by xiaoyung . Updated 23 years, 11 months ago

I call upon the gods of this group for assistance today after hours of frustration. I have just recently set up a VPN using NT 4.0 and MS’ provided software. When dialing from the ouside world (via cable modem), I have no problem connecting and authenticating through the server. In fact, it connects just fine and I get assigned an IP address (we’ll use 192.168.0.200 as an example). However, when I ping any IP address on the internal network, it doesn not reply (save for the 192.168.0.200).Needless to say, it’s not resolving DNS names either.

The strange part about it is that when I had a user who was currently at the company and connected to the network ping the address of the laptop that was connected via VPN (192.168.0.200), they would get a reply. Not only that, it would resolve the laptop’s name and they were able to access the shared resources on the laptop without a hitch. So it seems that it’s a one-way conversation via VPN to the laptop here.

Has anyone had this problem and if so, have you resolved it?
