VPN with Firewalls

I have realised that there are some problems with accessing the Internet after you establish a connection with a pptp-vpn.
Also, there are some difficulties having access to the Windows NT Terminal server to through a branch office-vpn behind a firewall.
Does anyone have some ideas?
