VPN with win2k?

I have a client who wants to setup a vpn connection to allow employees to access office lan from home. Is a VPN using just win2k (pptp) a wise choice? what are the advantages/disadvantages of this approach. Any alternate ideas would be appreciated.
Considerations – price,ease of setup,ease of maintenance,number of concurrent connections,workload on server
