W2k Pro, Windows Explorer refresh delays

In w2k’s windows explorer (nt explorer, file manager), when I select a folder in the left pane-using the mouse, the folders contents appear immediately-in the right pane. BUT, when I use the keyboard to select a different folder via the up-down arrows, there is a considerable delay before the right pane updates. Is this adjustable??
