What am I qualified for?

by timtoady . Updated 25 years, 4 months ago

In the 60’s and 70’s I worked in the aerospace industry and learned to program in RPG and Fortran.

In the 80’s I learned BASIC, 8000/6502/8088/8086 assembler. Had my own software and consulting company (sold out in 1987 – got involved in other business interests).

In the 90’s I used Visual Basic for some small jobs for friends. I have set-up and maintained a few websites and that forced me to learn HTML and Perl. I am now starting on PHP and MySQL.

Work in tele-communications brought me to Seattle about 8 months ago. Have spent the last six years working as contractor for telephone companies specializing in T-1 and DSL. The work is completed, but, I would like to stay here permanently.

I have thought about taking some classes to update my education. However, at this point in my life, taking a year or two for training would severly cut into the time I have left to work.

I still have a passion for programming and also enjoy web development. I would like to find work here in those areas.

I have over 20 years of programming experience in a broad range of activities. What do you think my best options are? How can I best represent my abilities to others?
