What budget phone to get?

by chanciusliu . Updated 1 year, 5 months ago

I’m trying to replace a phone I used for 6 years. It still runs well except some apps can’t be updated and it’s not compatible with the phone anymore. The free phone (moto g play) I got from the service is only good for reading news etc simple tasks. It runs very slowly crashes often with media apps. The worst of all is the auto refresh on apps in the background. This is annoying when logging in of sites that require a code from message. When I switching from message back tot he app, the app would start over again and I have request the code again. I tried tips from Motorola but didn’t find a solution.
I’m on Windows more and don’t need too much power with a smartphone. I’d like to buy a phone that meet the requirements below:
1. No more than $300- $350.
2. Can run video/media apps (eg. TK, Youtube etc) smoothly (= no slow launch, no random crash, no artifacts on vidoes)
3. No background refresh when switching between apps. The background app should stay on the same page without starting over.
4. Nice to have MicroSD support, but prefer adoptive one that allows installing apps to the MicroSD card. The moto g play I have can only store media on the drive and option to install apps to microSD is disabled.
5. Prefer to have 5G.
6. it can last 5 years or more. I read that certain phones don’t get system updates anymore after a few years. Does that means all the apps would gradually stop working after the updates stop.

I’ve look at moto g stylus 5G and a few others. Are there other phones you would recommend?

Thanks.
