What does a person in DB Admin do?

Hi Everybody
I could use some help. Having just been laid off, I am looking to go back to school. Having done some research it appears database administration is something that appears promising to pursue. However, not knowing anyone in the field, I am at a loss to find out what one does in the course of a day’s work. I could really use some help in this area. I have also been advised to take some Unix classes also. I am seriously considering the Oracle course offered at a nearby school. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
