What now?

Hi Group,

I work for a very small company, who have recently been purchased by an American venture capital comapny. Due to some company “Stream lining” earlier in the year the companies I.T. manager was made redundant. This was deemed possible asI have experience in user level technical support and some experience in Network Admin.

When after announcing the redundancies i was asked by managment to cover any I.T. problems that may arise, (i was supposed to have assistance from two other people, both of whom have been no help to date!) The problem is that I work in the Purchasing department in a completely un-I.T. related role, and that is a full time job in itself. After agreeing to adopt this role above and beyond my normal job description i E-mailed my boss, and the Managing Directer telling them that i would accept this extra work on the condition that is was reviewed in three months.

The three months are up, and I’m doing two jobs at once! and i’m only ever fixing ratherthan preventing problems.

There is obviously still a need for an I.T. Manager, and i’d love to do it, but the law in the UK states that you cannot replace the role of someone made redundant. What should i do? Do you think they could get away with changing my job title to “Information and Systems Manager” and change the role slightly?
