I am needing some advice on job titles and descriptions. I have been doing helpdesk support for a construction/engineering project, for the past year and a half. And was laid off last week, I thought I was being so smart to do IT for a stable industry like construction, WRONG! Prior to this job, I was the network administrator for a small CPA firm, also wore the Office Manager hat there. I have a masters degree in computer information systems, from the university of phoenix. I would like to getinto a more active leadership and responsibility role with my next position. I don’t want to take another job, where I know how to do everything that the job takes in 30 days.
I can code in C++ but don’t really feel that is my niche in the IT world. I like relating to the users, and or clients, and would like that to also be part of the scope of what I do. I am no small slouch at troubleshooting, and understand networks inside and out. I have done some systems analysis, and disaster recovery planning. However, I have not gotten the certs, for any of this. I have been working with computers since the mainframe days, my first job was keypunching back in the early 70s.
So, what do I look at? I am really having trouble defining keyword searches that find things. I either get way too much, or nothing. I am not adverse to moving either, so am trying to look across the US. Any help you can give would be appreciated.
