Why does my new XP box slow to a crawl when accessing the CD/DVD burner?

by action.barry . Updated 19 years, 4 months ago

I recently built an XP box. I have a Seagate HD connected to the mobo via SATA, and a Lite-On DVD/CD writer connected as a master IDE.

My problem is that whenever the machine accesses the CD/DVD writer, everything slows to a crawl — the mouse even skips slightly when moving around the screen. I’ve read through my motherboard manual several times and can’t find any clues.

Anybody have any suggestions?

EDIT: I found this on a thread about a similar problem elsewhere…is this a valid solution?

Hi, I will post this in your other thread as you have listed this in two sections.

Open Device Manager on your PC.

Uninstall your two IDE channels located under IDE controllers.

Reboot, let windows re install the IDE controllers and all should be good.

Dont go installing them damn intel chipset drivers again Laughing

Let us know if it works for ya?
