Why my DVD won’t read DVDs, but works fine with cds?

I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE laptop. It recently stopped playing DVDs but still plays CDs. When you put a DVD in, it spins for a second then stops. The media players say no disc is in the drive. If you put a audio or data CD in, it works fine. I tried to uninstall it, run a self test, everything i could think of, everything says its working properly. Any suggestions? Thanks
