Win 2000 restarts without mu consent

Windows 2000 is shutting down smothly on its own and restarts. It does it in such a way that if you are working on something it saves the work and continues the normal shutdown process after it has shut down it restarts. In other it stops and does not clush anything but its irritating.
Please help.
